Mihintale in Sr Lanka

Situated just 12 km away from Anuradhapura, Mihintale a 1080 ft rock is the birthplace of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. This series of stone steps takes one up to the rock boulder from where the view of the surrounding areas and the sacred forest reserve where King Devanampiya Tissa met Arahat Mahinda Thera can be seen. Also spread around are a number of rock caves used by early monks for meditation, ancient monuments, remains of Stupas, ruins of a hospital, medical bath, stone inscriptions and buildings of archeological and historical value.
