Polonnaruwa in Sr Lanka

Another UNESCO listed World Heritage site, the Kingdom of Polonnaruwa, a medieval ancient capital was under the reign of Kings in the 11th and 12th centuries. Known as the second ancient capital of Sri Lanka, it is home to the largest man-made lake in the country, the Parakrama Samudra (Sea of Parakrama) constructed by King Parakramabahu 1, who reigned Polonnaruwa between 1153 – 86. In addition Polonnaruwa boasts of a number of Dagobas (a massive dome containing enshrined relics), remains of amazing sculptures, palaces and temples making it one of the finest archeological sites in the country.
