Udawalawe National Park

Famed for its Elephant population, the Udawalawe National Park is situated on 38, 821 hectares on the Udawalawe Reservoir which is fed by the Walawe River. Seeing herds of Elephants with their young feeding and playing in the water is a common sight at the park. In addition the other wildlife to be seen are the Jungle Cat, Sloth Bear, Leopard, Water Buffalo, Monkeys, Sambar Deer, Crocodile and many species of birds. The Udawalwe Elephant Transit Center set up within the National Park cares for orphaned calves coming from all parts of the country.
