Wasgamuwa National Park

This tropical Evergreen Park bordering the Mahaweli and Amban rivers is home to many species of fauna, flora and birdlife; however its single attraction is its large herd of elephants numbering over 150, seen mostly in the months of May and November. Other interesting Mammals to be seen are endemic Monkeys, Sri Lanka Leopard, and Sloth Bear, Spotted and Smabar Deer and over 145 species of birds amongst many others. Interestingly visitors can also see remains of ancient temples and tanks that makes the Park historically important.
