Wilpattu National Park

It is the largest and the oldest National Parks in Sri Lanka and is also known as the ‘Land of Lakes’ due to the existence of more than 60 natural ‘Willus’ or lakes spread throughout the park. Wilpattu is home to many varieties of flora, almost 30 species of mammals, which includes elephant, sloth bear, leopard, sambur and spotted deer, reptiles and birdlife. Wilpattu also has an interesting history to it; it was here at Kiduramalai Point (Horse Mountain) Prince Vijaya, the first recorded King of Sri Lanka set foot.
